Taste is like a woman’s mind… Subject to change…

I guess its like a mans mind too but whatever. So I just put on my once coveted goldenrod dunks, and quickly found myself repulsed by them. Not literally but I couldn’t stand the sight of them. Why the change? Was it dunkmania? Becoming a father? The over-commodification of sneakers? The dep…er recession? Maybe all, except the dad part. Yes the memo went out, dunks are lame, but I often find myself illiterate when it comes to cultural memoranda. How did something so right go so wrong?

Maybe its just me?

They look aite on you.. sortof.. Kindof. Vans, chucks, supergas, aged lavers, beat 90′s, canvas re ups, no socks, no draws, no money, skinny chicks… pbr? Really? Wtf? The days of opulence and excess are gone. Seated on the bone of our ass it is clear to see that brand new is lame. Black is the new black.

My vision slowly cleared up and focused on a beam on the ceiling. Wait. There’s no beam on my ceiling.

Excitement, curiosity, dread…

The disciplined deril knows to relish this moment. He will fight the urge to care or go detective. He knows that one of the best feelings is the anxiety of lost time. The slow stream of details that will trickle into his mind from the night before will nourish him, fill him, and make him whole once more. Good, bad or ugly the details are a prize worth winning. With a wince or a grin, he is tickled just to get those moments back, he weighs them, considers them, waits for the next bit, keeps some, forgets some. He understands that uncertainty and shame are part of life.

A pot on a fire escape. Its there. Sitting. Waiting. It will rain. The rain will collect. The sun will eventually empty it of its moments.
