There was no piano at the piano bar…

About 6 months ago I was out with a  japanese client of mine who was in town. We finished dinner and I was thinking we would hit one of the usual haunts afterwards. He suggested that we go to a “piano” bar. I had heard of these japanese hostess bars before, but for whatever reason it never struck me as something particularly fun or desirable.  Big deal.  Sitting around talking to some japanese chick in broken english about nothing. Right? Wrong.

The piano bar experience is the perfect entree to a debaucherous evening. That is, if you go to the right one…

Here’s the skinny:

-Hourly rate that includes all you can drink
-Hostesses that sit with you and you buy them over priced drinks
-Topless dancers who give lapdances

The experienced go-er knows better than wasting much time with the hostesses. They are a vestige of a more civilised time when conversation and mental stimulation were more important than T&A.  So politely decline the hostess and get down to BNS.

“Can you send me a dancer please?”
The dancers are generally cute to hot looking japanese chicks, that like most dancers (strippers) might part with their number if shown the promise of a good time or bread being spent on them.

The dances also range from lukewarm to retarded. Not saying that anything goes, but I will say its not the typical NY  (keep your back straight and your arms pinned or chuck zito, or some equally frightful goon, is gonna beat ur ass) Lapdance.  No.  Not to mention the length. There is no prescribed length. No 90 second clips, no annoying guy on a PA system. Just booze, couches and some hawt asian girls giggling and practicing their english on you during what seems to be the never-ending lapdance.
